Mees: How does air-quality affect you?

The goal of the project was to create an application for a broad audience with two main goals: to provide users with information about their environment and additional tools to engage with this information on an individual level, allowing people to make informed decisions in this field. The second goal is to collect research data to study the eect of air quality on health and personal experiences. Reaching a broad audience required support for a wide range of platforms, which is why the application has been designed and implemented for both Android and iOS in addition to a website which is supported in all major browsers. The application receives environmental data which it parses, stores and visualizes for the users. A raster overlay provides spatial information and sensors show a wide range of information for specic locations. To engage users with environmental data, a variety of tools were implemented. A route planner which calculates the average exposure for routes, a personal activity calendar that visualizes historical exposure for each activity per day and last but not least, a rating system that allows users to rate their environment and view the ratings of other users. Finally, in order to generate and collect research data the application sends users context-based questionnaires about their environment and experiences. The research data is formed by combining the questionnaire responses with user data.
